After the Alnwick game yesterday we caught up with Club Captain Max Stoker for the second of his monthly interviews.
How do you feel the first month of the season has gone?
There has been some ups and downs; a month of mistakes and missed chances in games we could have been well out of sight but a respectable 10 points could have easily been 15/16 points for me!
What are the highlights of the next month?
Along with some winnable looking games in the league there is the FA vase game (Against Penrith 9/9) which is an open game for us; nothing is expected from us against Penrith by anybody else, but it’s an opportunity to get a scalp and get some prize money in as well.
Who in the team has impressed you most early in the season?
I think the new signings have started games well; in paticular Gav, Sean and Reece. Up front the big lads Nick and Kenty have looked dangerous as well.
Yesterday was the 9th game in already! As the only player to play every minute so far; which have been your favourite games?
I thought the games against Alnwick (3-0) and Northallerton (0-2) we were fantastic all over the pitch from start too finish in different ways. Alnwick yesterday we dominated and looked comfortable throughout, the scoreline not flattering us. Against Northallerton, despite suffering a defeat, we played well and against one of the strongest teams in the division where unlucky not to pick up something from the game.
You’ve had a month to see the season develop, at the start of the of the season you tipped Blyth, Tow Law and West Allotment to press for promotion how do you see it now?
I still think both Tow Law and Blyth will be right up there come the end of the season.
Any other thoughts moving forward into September?
Just need to keep picking up wins against teams in and around ourselves then frustrate the so called bigger teams and try to get on the front foot from the off.
Thank you for the time Max.
